Norman Cowin Limited - Building & Civil Engineering Contractors on the Isle of Man

Norman Cowin Limited was formed in 1987 by Norman Cowin and remains today as a family owned and run construction company consisting of local directly employed Tradesmen and operatives.

The company remains as a long time member of the Isle of Man Employers’ Federation and is an ‘Approved Contractor’ within the Manx Accredited Construction Contractors Scheme (MACCS).

Norman Cowin Limited have recently undergone an assessment process and has attained approval for its Management Systems, Standards and Guidelines under ISO 9001 : 2008 Quality Standard for Administration Systems in respect of its Building and Civil Engineering works contracts. We believe that we are the first Manx Registered Building Company that has undergone this through an on-island audit process and have achieved registration and approval first time round.

The labour force is a core of approximately 14 long-term employees and administration staff which is increased as required and supplemented with other Sub Contract trades and companies (MACCS members also), dependent on individual contract requirements and workload.

In addition to employing Department of Infrastructure qualified Tradesmen, operatives are also certificated and licensed Plant Operators and Drivers for all of our Excavators, Telehandler, Dumper, Lorries and HGV/Hi-Ab Roll Back Lorry.

All operatives are ‘Asbestos Awareness’ trained/certified to Level 2 (Non-licensed removal). Site Supervisors are ‘Site Safety Manager’ and ‘First Aid’ trained/certificated and the Company remains committed to continued training of all of its operatives and Supervisory staff.

The Company has a purpose built warehouse based in Ballasalla for material and plant storage and a separate storage facility at Foxdale (for scaffolding and Site Offices/Welfare Units/Storage Containers) both of which supplements and supports the Company’s on-site activities.  

All Public & Employers Liability and Contract Works Insurances with Aviva Insurance Limited and are maintained at levels of cover to reflect requirements of all contracts.
