Phase 1/1B: The works entailed the construction of a new two storey extension to create a new ground floor Head Teachers Office and Conference Room and a new first floor Classroom and separately a new first floor Link Corridor all from within the existing quadrangle of the school. With no direct site access from outside, all materials and waste were craned into and out of the quadrangle in ‘planned lifts’ as the works proceeded. The extensions were built of cavity block and facing brick construction to match the existing school with beam and block ground and first floors to the Office/Conference Room/Classroom extension. The roof to this extension was formed using timber trusses and finished with a natural green slate to match the existing roof. The first floor Link Corridor was constructed on top of an existing ground floor Link Corridor again built of cavity block and facing brick construction to match the existing school with a flat roof and parapet walls with parapet copings and aluminium balustrading on top. A full size dormer was constructed with a new internal roof access ladder installed to create safe internal access to the new and existing flat roofs. New uPVC double glazed windows were installed to both extensions to match the existing. Internally walls were plastered, ceilings finished in plasterboard or suspended ceilings tiles as specified, corridor and circulation walls were tiled to match the existing colour combination/pattern of the school, floors carpeted or finished with vinyl and breakthroughs completed to connect the new extensions to the existing school buildings.
Phase 1B was undertaken simultaneously consisted of the refurbishment of two existing classrooms and the formation within an existing area of a History Room, Projection Room, Store and Access Corridor all finished to the same specification of the new extensions.
